  • Argala Stotra -
    Dhyāna
Instructions: There are two meditations given in this Argala Stotra by Maharṣi Mārkaṇḍeya.
  • Understand Argala - अर्गल (argala) means a wooden bolt or pin for fastening a door or the cover of a vessel like the lid of a box. The purpose of argala is to act as a safety measure to check access or conceal and protect.
  • Antara Argala - Technical Terminology
BodyThe concept of argala is applicable to any astrological body including planets, houses (bhāva), ārūḍha, special ascendants (viśeṣa lagna) including varga (divisional charts).
  • Antara-Bāhya - Definition
Antara bhāva are the interior houses comprising the half from the tenth to the fourth house reckoned zodiacally and excluding the lagna. This includes the six houses – 10th, 11th, 12th, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Essentially, three dṛṣya bhāva – 10th, 11th and 12th houses and three adṛṣya bhāva – 2nd, 3rd and 4th houses.

Bāhya bhāva are the exterior houses comprising the remaining houses viz. the five reckoned from 5th to 9th houses and including the lagna.
  • Bāhya Argala - Bāhya Bhāva
Bāhya means exterior or external implying something that is going away, particularly in relationships.
    Exterior Planet Retrograde
Consider the retrogression of the exterior planets. When they are in the 9th house from the Sun, these planets begin to retrograde. The retrogradation speed gradually increases until the time when they are directly opposite the Sun, i.e. the 7th house. At this time the speed is a maximum.
  • Viparīta Argala - Jyotiṣa Terminology
    विपरीत viparīta
Turned round, reversed, inverted and being the reverse of anything. It shows something that is acting in a contrary manner or opposite to its nature; giving contrary results like going asunder or in different and peculiar directions. Traditional people consider this perverse and wrong as it is contrary to the rule. It shows the rise of the evil forces of nature and yet the native experiences great success due to support of these evil forces.
