Varṇadā Introduction - The word varṇa is derived from vṛ meaning to cover, screen, conceal, surround or obstruct and refers to all that people attach to themselves due to family, profession or club. It includes colors, symbols, implements and everything that shapes the outward appearance, figure, shape. It can refer to a class of men, tribe, order or caste.
Viśeṣa Lagna Adhyāyaḥ - अथ विशेषलग्नाध्यायः॥
atha viśeṣalagnādhyāyaḥ ||
अथाहं सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि तवाग्रे द्विजसत्तम।
भावहोराघटीसंज्ञलग्नानीति पृथक् पृथक्॥ १॥
athāhaṁ sampravakṣyāmi tavāgre dvijasattama |
bhāvahorāghaṭīsaṁjñalagnānīti pṛthak pṛthak || 1||
सूर्योदयं समारभ्य घटिकानां तु पंचकम्।
प्रयाति जन्मपर्यन्तं भावलग्नं तदेव हि॥ २॥
sūryodayaṁ samārabhya ghaṭikānāṁ tu paṁcakam |
prayāti janmaparyantaṁ bhāvalagnaṁ tadeva hi || 2||
इष्टं घट्यादिकं भक्त्वा पंचभिर्भादिजं फलम्।
योज्यमौदयिके सूर्ये भावलग्नं स्फुटं च तत्॥ ३॥
iṣṭaṁ ghaṭyādikaṁ bhaktvā paṁcabhirbhādijaṁ phalam |
yojyamaudayike sūrye bhāvalagnaṁ sphuṭaṁ ca tat || 3||
तथा सार्धद्विघटिकामितादर्कोदयाद् द्विज।
प्रयाति लग्नं तन्नाम होरालग्नं
Lesson-01: Varṇadā Lagna - Varṇadā Calculation
ओजलग्नप्रसूतानां मेषादेर्गणयेत् क्रमात्।
समलग्नप्रसूतानाम् मीनादेरपसव्यतः॥ ११॥
ojalagnaprasūtānāṁ meṣādergaṇayet kramāt |
samalagnaprasūtānām mīnāderapasavyataḥ || 11||
If birth is in an odd sign, then the count is zodiacal from Meṣa to Lagna; If birth is in an even sign then count is anti-zodiacal from Mīna to Lagna.
The count from Aries to the Lagna, in case of lagna being in any odd sign will always give an odd number.
Lesson-02: Varṇadā Chakra - Just as we calculated the varṇadā lagna considering (a) lagna and (b) horā lagna, so also we can calculate the dhana varṇadā (V2) by considering the 2nd house from lagna and 2nd house from horā lagna.
